Rafael López is a Managing Director for Accenture’s Health and Public Service practice. He leverages technology and innovation to help shape national strategies for a variety of health and human service agencies throughout North America. Rafael joined Accenture in 2017 after two decades of working in both the private and public sectors to improve the lives of children, youth and families, including as Commissioner of the Administration on Children, Youth and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and as a senior policy advisor at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Domestic Policy Council.
Prior to joining US HHS in 2015, Rafael served as a senior policy advisor at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy within the Executive Office of the President and with the Domestic Policy Council. Before that, Rafael was an associate director at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, a private national philanthropy devoted to improving the educational, economic, social and health outcomes for at-risk children.
Earlier in his career Rafael served as the president and CEO of The Family League of Baltimore City, Inc., where he was a member of the Baltimore City Mayor’s Cabinet; as executive director of the City of Los Angeles Commission for Children, Youth and Their Families; as deputy director of the City and County of San Francisco Department of Children, Youth & Their Families; and as senior deputy for Health and Human Services for Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina.
López earned his Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from the University of California Santa Cruz and a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government where he was named a Lucius N. Littauer Fellow. He resides in Washington, D.C., with his wife and two children.
