Matt Cutts

Acting Administrator, U.S. Digital Service
Matt Cutts joined Google in January 2000 as a software engineer and ran the webspam team in Google search for over a decade. He also wrote the initial version of SafeSearch, Google’s family filter. Matt left Google in December 2016 to join the United States Digital Service as their Director of Engineering and became the Acting Administrator in January 2017.

Matt attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he worked on a Ph.D. in computer science. He has an M.S. from UNC-Chapel Hill, and B.S. degrees in both mathematics and computer science from the University of Kentucky. He currently lives with his wife Cindy in Washington D.C., where he loves to run, take thirty-day challenges, and hang out with their cats.
